Container grades

Match the condition to the job.

Container grading is practical, not cosmetic perfection. The right condition depends on where the container is going, how visible it will be, how often the doors will be used, and whether it will be modified or shipped again.

Grades are a starting point, not a substitute for current photos.

Two containers with the same grade can look different. Availability changes by branch and market conditions, so condition should be confirmed before the final quote.

  • Ask for current photos when appearance matters.
  • Confirm door operation if the container will be opened often.
  • Use one-trip when mods, cosmetics, or municipal requirements matter.
Best condition

One-trip

A newer container that has typically made one loaded trip from the factory before being sold for storage or modification use.

Best for
Residential sites, clean storage, offices, retail-facing use, and modifications.
Expect
Fresh paint, easier doors, cleaner floors, and fewer dents or repairs.
Watch for
Still an industrial steel product, so minor handling marks can happen.
Used export grade

Cargo worthy

A used container that remains structurally sound and can be suitable for shipping again when certification and repairs are current.

Best for
Industrial storage, export planning, job sites, farms, and value-focused buyers.
Expect
Visible dents, surface rust, patches, faded paint, and stiffer doors than one-trip units.
Watch for
Certification status and current inspection requirements if the unit will ship loaded.
Storage grade

Wind and watertight

A used storage container intended to keep normal rain and snow out, but no longer positioned as an export-ready container.

Best for
Budget storage, farms, yards, job sites, seasonal storage, and places where appearance is secondary.
Expect
More cosmetic wear, older paint, repairs, scratches, patches, and surface rust.
Watch for
Cosmetic expectations. If the container will sit in a visible area, consider one-trip.
Project grade

As-is

A discounted or oddball unit sold with limited or no guarantees. It may need repairs before it is useful for storage.

Best for
Buyers who can inspect, repair, modify, or repurpose the unit themselves.
Expect
Damage, leaks, floor issues, door issues, or cosmetic problems may be present.
Watch for
Do not treat as-is as regular storage unless repairs and risks are understood.
